In just two more weeks, the Maritim Hotel in Bonn will open its doors for the 32nd edition of FedCon. This year I've decided to give the event another chance and treat myself to a weekend there. It remains to be seen how it will turn out and whether it can surpass my experience at Destination Star Trek übertreffen kann.
Finally something new for the blog. FedCon is taking place in Bonn in two months and I'm busy preparing my costumes. Because I'm still waiting for a few things, I've started to make myself some customized Vulcan ears. Here's a preview of my work-in-progress: making rough shapes. More soon!
Many people here and at Destination Trek have asked me how I made my Andorian prosthetics. Alright, I'll show you the process. You can find details under each picture. Please note that these are my first foam latex prosthetics, so I think there are other ways to make them. Be nice 😉 .
For my birthday last year I got a kitchen aid. Now, of course, you may wonder what this has to do with mask making. Quite a lot: Because in addition, I bought myself a mini oven. And that means I can now finally get to make foam latex prosthetics.
In the article I wrote a couple of days ago, I took a closer look at the Andorians’ skin colour, noting how makeup effects have improved over time. From a simple, two-tone makeup in TOS to modern silicone masks in DIS, a lot has changed. In this second instalment, I'd like to address another aspect of the special FX makeup that makes these aliens so unique: the Andorian antennae.
So, yes, I have tried a few materials for modeling. From clay to plasticine to plaster and silicone, there are a variety of options to create the perfect model or sculpture. But ever since I tried modeling with Monster Clay Medium, I've been completely in love with it.

Die Andorianer. Wer sie aus TOS kennt, denkt erst einmal an blau zugespachtelte Schauspieler mit weißen Watterprücken und seltsam künstlichen Antennen. Früher fand ich sie eher mittelgeil … vor allem im Vergleich zu Vulkaniern, Romulanern oder Ferengi. Aber im Laufe der Jahre haben die Veränderungen des Make-ups der Andorianer dafür gesorgt, dass ich mich genauer mit ihnen beschäftigt habe.
